  • The workhorse of the civil war was the 12 pdr Napoleon style cannon, while a 12 pdr field howitzer, a 12 pdr mountain howitzer, and a 12 pdr mortar all fired the same size projectile. The mountain howitzer came into it's own in the west during the Indian Wars but it did see some use in the western theater during the Civil War.

Hello, I posted this blog to tell about Civil War relic hunting and to show some of my finds. I started metal detecting for Civil War relic about 1990, and found it to be a lot of fun as well as being good exercise. I started doing research to find where the battles had been fought, and where the armies had camped.
